T vs T Weeks 16 and 17

Again, I apologize for the largeness of this graphic.

I wanted to let all of you know the 2008 NFL Johnson competition has come to an end.

I think I made a good showing in the last weeks, but...................my husband came out victorious.

Here are the stats:

Week 16

Todd 151/224

Tami 145/224

(Notice, I won this week!)

Week 17

Todd 162/240

Tami 154/240

I concede that my husband Todd Johnson was the better man this year. He now gets his prize of a new fly fishing reel from Orvis. I'll be sure to post a pic of it for you. Congrats Todd, I am nothing if not a gracious loser........

Watch out next year though!

Christmas Vacation

I just wanted to say that I am still alive. I am in Utah with my family, and don't have ready access to a computer so my blogging is suffering. I am having a wonderful time, although it is chilly.

I wanted to thank everyone who left me a message regarding my "Mad" post. Sometimes you just need to say stuff out loud, or in this case, type stuff, and it helps. I love and miss my dad, and I know it will get easier.

I will post some pictures soon I hope, and also the results of the Football Competition.

T vs T Weeks 14 and 15

OK first, I don't know why this logo came up so gigantic... sorry.

Second, sorry I'm late with the postings. I haven't had a computer for almost a week. I've been so alone... Anyway, no commentary this week here are the scores.

Mad

I'm not really sure I should be posting this, but it's how I feel today, and I feel like this is the only way I know how to deal with all the thoughts in my head.

I'm mad.

I'm mad today. I'm frustrated and mad.

I'm mad that I'm bringing my family home to see my mom and not my dad. I'm mad and angry that he's not there. This isn't how it's supposed to be. This isn't how I thought it would be in my head before I got married. I imagined my little family coming over to my parent's home and enjoying this wonderful time of year. I imagined him taking them out in their first snow. I imagined my dad in that red and white suit talking to my kids, listening to their innocent voices. I imagined them knowing the "real" Santa like I did my whole life. I imagined the wonderment on their faces as they looked up in his bright, loving, blue eyes. I imagined the mystery and excitement, and one day the look on their faces as they looked at those big, safe hands and say, "that's Pop"! I imagined him telling them the same story he told me about how he was Santa's special helper, and had been asked specifically by Santa to help him visit little girls and boys. And that it was a secret and they couldn't tell anyone. And they wouldn't. And secretly they would be so proud that "their" Pop was chosen, like I always was.

Today I feel robbed. I feel robbed of those experiences and hundreds of others. that my children would have had with him.

They don't get to know him. They don't get to know of his goodness.

I'm listening to Christmas music, and today it doesn't feel like the most wonderful time of the year. All the words seem fake.

I'm sure things will be better tomorrow, and I will once again understand that things are how they should be. But today, right now, Christmas doesn't seem right without my dad.

T vs T Week 13

It isn't good news.

I lost again this week by 1 game. I would like to take this opportunity to apologize to all those who have cheered for me this season.

I have let you down. I know this. I understand.

To all the girls that counted on me to stand up and beat my husband at a "man's" game... I'm sorry. My humiliation grows every Sunday when my husband calls me a loser. So unless by some crazy force of nature, I can go up by 5 games this week, it's going to be another sad Sunday.

Not too late for Thanks!

I have been very neglectful of the blog this month. I've been busy, and absent minded. I did want to post about our nice little Thanksgiving.

It was just the 4 of us this Thanksgiving. Todd doesn't really love "Thanksgiving" food, so I didn't want to cook everything just for me and Macie. I did some checking on the internet and found this restaurant called MacArthur Park that served a special buffet for the day. The menu sounded absolutely fabulous, but you never really know what you're going to get.

We set out for Palo Alto for our yummy dinner.

We arrived at this charming place.

We sat right in front of this:

We went and gathered our first plateful....was it going to be worth the trip... was it going to be worth the money? Was it going to be worthy to be called our Thanksgiving Dinner?

YES!

This is me enjoying my garlic mashed potatos. Not to mention my filet mignon, iced shrimp, butternut squash raviolis, macaroni and cheese, salmon florentine, bbq ribs, fresh green beans, phyllo wrapped baked brie, homemade rolls, and creme brulee.

Everyone was quite happy!

I was going to take pictures of the buffet, but I felt way to stupid to bring a camera to all the tables. There was so much food, and I only listed the things that I actually ate. There was a lot more!

Here are some left over dishes. Notice the four creme brulee cups. Gabby and I loved them!

I am so thankful for a wonderful family, good health, a warm home and good friends. I am truly blessed!

Macie's Program

Today Macie's class had a Thanksgiving lunch and a small program for the kids and their parents. The kids decorated place mats for everyone, and set the tables. The room looked very cute with lots of fall leaves and pumkins.

We had a pot luck "Thanksgiving" meal, that was pretty good. I'm usually a little skidish about eating food from people I don't know, (I know it's weird) but everything was ok. Except to say that for dessert there was a store bought bundt cake. I'm just saying, people had to make mashed potatoes, stuffing and turkey, and this person could not make SOMETHING! It's not like cooking a turkey and making stuffing are super easy tasks. It just always bugs me that someone can't spend 1 hour and MAKE something. (Sorry, a little tangent there.)

After lunch the kids told us what they were thankful for:

Then they sang a turkey song. It had actions, and was darling!

Sadly Todd couldn't make it, but Gabby and I had a great time at Macie's school!

T vs T Week 12

Hello, hello! This was a rough week. There were 3 games that were hard for me to pick... and I lost all 3. I'm still optimistic, but it's looking like Todd is going to win a great prize in Jan.

No Nails For You!

Sorry for the boring football stats lately. I have been really drawing a blank with the blog. I did have an incident the other day though that I thought I'd share. (P.S. this turned out longer than I anticipated, sorry)

A little background..

Since I was about 17 yrs old I have had acrylic nails.

(not my hand)

I have had to change nail techs several times, which is painful. If you don't get your nails done, you probably think this is silly. If you do, you know how important a good tech can be. While it is true, there is a nail salon on every corner, most are not very good.

I went to a lady in Bountiful named Jeanette. I'd been going to her for 8 years. She is fantastic. Reasons why I loved Jeanette:

1. She is fast. Thiry minutes and I was out the door.
2. She doesn't really chat, which is good.
3. She knew exactly how to shape my nails.
4. She airbrushed a perfect french manicure.
5. I could go almost 3 weeks between fills.
6. She only charged $16 for a fill.
7. I could always get in within 1 day of calling.

So, as you can see I was more sad to leave Jeanette than some of my friends when I moved...(just trickin') but she was great.

I've now been is California for 23 months. I've been to countless salons and until last week I'd found no one that could even hit 2 of the above 7. I know it seems crazy but I've had a really hard time. I found one lady that I pretty much liked, but she charged me $40...Ummm..NO!

I've found ones less expensive, but the quality was terrible, and most of all... the techs have been rude. Especially the guys. I guess they figure there's a million other women out there, they don't need to be nice.

Anyway a few weeks ago, my cell broke. I went to Verizon and got it taken care of. The girl that helped me had great nails. (At this point I have no shame, and will ask anyone about nails to try and find a good tech). She told me the salon name and the tech to go to. I was so excited. There was hope for decent nails.

So here we are to last week. I made my appt. and showed up. The lady's name is Jenny, and she did my nails. They looked great! She shaped them well, was fast, not chatty etc. I was very pleased. She is actually the owner of the salon. Her 2 daughters work there, and her youngest daughter was out of school that day, hanging out at the salon. I think she is about 8 yrs old. Gabby was with me in her car seat. She had been great the whole time. She really didn't make a peep until the last 5 minutes. I was over drying my nails, (under the fan) and she was fussing a little for me. I saw the little girl come over and stand by Gabby. I thought, Oh good, she will talk to her for a minute so she won't fuss. Then I heard the girl say:

"Shut up baby, shut up baby, shut up baby, shut up baby, I'm telling you to shut up baby! Shut up baby, shut up baby......

She just kept saying it!

My timer went off, and I hurried over to Gab. The girl just looked at me, not embarrassed about what she'd been saying, just looking annoyed.

The older sister came over to tell me the amount. The little girl said; "Isn't that baby annoying? She needs to shut up!" (FYI, Gabby is not crying, just fussing a little). The sister was stunned... She told the girl that the baby was fine, and that's what babies did, and stuff like that. The little girl just kept telling her to shut up and that she was annoying. I wanted to tell that little girl that she was the one who was annoying, and tell her it wasn't nice to talk like that. But as I went to speak up, this is what I saw:

I saw myself being banned from the only decent salon I've found!

So what DID I say....

I said nothing. I said nothing, paid the girl and quickly left. I was too afraid that Jenny might be a "Nail Nazi". I did not want to offend her. I let that little brat talk badly to my innocent little angel. What kind of a mother am I?

If Gabby had been old enough to understand the words I would have said something, banned or not. I thought, this girl doesn't know better, just leave. Was I wrong?

I know I should have said something, in a nice way, because I've thought about it since it happened. That means I feel guilty. I don't mean to make this an earth shaking incident, but what would you have done?

T vs T Week 11

Well....

Thanks for all the good wishes, I did win this week!

I am happy, but it was only by 1 game. I'm trying to stay positive and optimistic that I might be able to pull out an upset by the end of the season! I'm kind of a long shot though.

On a happy note: Tony came back and took care of the Redskins. You gotta love beating Washington!

T vs T Week 10

My father would be ashamed of me.

He would say, "What happened to the hours of football watching and football talking? Does it mean nothing? Has all my talk been in vain?"

I am saying NO dad! I listened, I watched, I enjoyed, I cheered, sometimes I even cried... I promise all of our "football time" was precious.

However, I am really swimming at the bottom of the pool. I lost again this week. I lost by 2.

I need some help people! I need all your good, positive vibes this week. And dad, I could use a little help from you too! Maybe you already know who's going to win... I don't want to cheat but, throw a couple thoughts in my head, please!
