Macie and I went to Mama Mia today. I have seen the musical, and loved it! I thought Macie would really enjoy all the singing, and especially the music!
We got our popcorn and drinks and sat down. Macie is interesting at the movies. I find a lot of times her eyes are on me, not the movie. She will tell you she liked it, but she always seems distracted, and kind of bored.
Not so with this one. Even when I looked at her, she didn't look back at me. Her eyes were set on that screen the entire movie. She loved it! I was so happy that she did! I love ABBA music anyway, but the story makes it that much better!
My mom told me when she went to see it that she cried in 2 places. The first when they were singing "Dancing Queen". She said she didn't really understand why. Well towards the end of the song I realized I had some tears too.
I felt immersed in the moment. They were so happy, full of life and love. Friends laughing, dancing, and singing together. I guess I felt so happy I cried.
The other time was when Donna was singing about her daughter "slipping through her fingers". Again like my mother, I cried.
I think I cried for her, and for me. I remembered my wedding day, and what that must have been like for her. Watching me get ready, so blissfully happy and ready to leave home. It was the happiest day of my life, next to the birth of Gabby.

Even though Gabby is only 10 months old, I cried thinking about her. Thinking about how everyday, just a little at a time, she slips away. And someday, hopefully she'll find the man of her dreams and get married too. I'm going to do my best not to think about that for awhile, because I'm crying even as I'm typing this.
Here are the words to the song. I wanted to include them, because I think they are beautiful, and maybe we should hug our kids once more before they climb in bed.
Schoolbag in hand
She leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye
With an absent-minded smileI watch her go
With a surge of that well-known sadness
And I have to sit down for a while
The feeling that I'm loosing her forever
And without really entering her world
I'm glad whenever I can share her laughter
That funny little girl
Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Sleep in our eyes
Her and me at the breakfast table
Barely awakeI let precious time go by
Then when she's gone
There's that odd melancholy feeling
And a sense of guiltI can't deny
What happened to the wonderful adventures
The places I had planned for us to go
Well some of that we did
But most we didn't
And why I just don't know
Slipping through my fingers all the time
I try to capture every minute
The feeling in it
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Do I really see what's in her mind
Each time I think I'm close to knowing
She keeps on growing
Slipping through my fingers all the time
Sometimes I wish that I could freeze the picture
And save it from the funny tricks of time
Slipping through my fingers
She leaves home in the early morning
Waving goodbye
With an absent-minded smileI watch her go

This was a great HAPPY movie. I'm sorry if I've given the impression that it's sad. I've probably over thought it!
